![]() I would like to believe I'm wrong, but it seems like we don't have anything quite like this for the Tri-State Fair. Do We Have Anything Like This For The Tri-State Fair? There's ice cream, syrup, and sugar all over the place. The sweet dishes are just as deep fried as the savory, and sound like the kind of stuff our parents got mad at us for creating while unsupervised in the kitchen. Looking through the list, you see the words "deep fried" next to some crazy levels of meat and the word jalapeno enough to make you sweat and you haven't even taken a bite yet. There's a thing called a Butcher's Block that has mac and cheese piled high with brisket, chicken, bacon, jalapeno, sausage, and is drizzled with brown sugar chipotle sauce. I went looking through this year's list of finalists, and again.I'm ready to dive in while my guts prep for a threat-level-red. The thing I love about the entrants into this contest is the fact that they go way, and I mean extremely, way beyond the normal fried foods you'd expect. He stopped us to ask how many whiskey's cakes for the table (we were celebrating 2 birthdays) on the way to the restroom! He never came to the table! Once the desserts were delivered, we were going to order a bottle of wine, but he never came to check on us for us to place the order. Our server initally was great, but by the time we were given our dinner, he seemed to disappear. We were all disappointed.more like a check off the list rather than an OMG MUST GET THAT AGAIN! We did notice, that the presentation on all 3 pieces was different, which seemed odd to us. After being voted best dessert in Dallas 2014 I thought this would be a homerun. The Texas Peach & Watermelon salad was yummy, but who likes to be know for a $12 salad that is seasonal? Dessert we of course had the Whiskey Cake. The OMG burger was good, but not the best burger and it really seems to be more about the presentation rather than the flavor. The Pork Brisket Steak & Chicken & Cheese Melt lacked flavor. The pork belly ramen was a surprisly better than the description. We all ordered something different and there wasn't one dish that seemed to amazing us. Appetizers were really good, the favorite at the table were the duck wings & fried green tomatoes. We ordered some of the signature drinks, and while they were good, the presentation was sloppy & the glasses were not full as they looked as if they got spilled a few times on the way to our table. Our server was quick to great us and get drinks to our table. We were luckly able to make a reservation, this is almost a must as the wait was over an hour Saturday evening. This has been a restaurant that was on our list for sometime. ![]() We went with a party of 6 to FINALLY eat at Whiskey Cake. ![]()
